First Annual Harper Park Golf Tournament Twenty four teams (nearly a hundred golfers) competed in the first annual Harper Park Golf Tournament at the Lincolnton Golf Club Saturday, October 29th. Despite cold, windy conditions, the event was very successful. Prior to tee off, each golfer received a gift bag which included items donated by sponsors, including pink tee shirts for the ladies and blue tee shirts for the men. The tee shirts were donated by Candi Lethcoe, Owner and President of Stress-Free Home Care of Stanley. First place prize of $400 was won by the Sun-Drop team, Matt Young, Ty Withers, Tony Merida and Roger Allison. Second place prize of $200 was won by players Larry Hayes, Lee Helton, Haley Helton and Rodney Bumgardner. Third place team collected $100 and players were Steve Perkins, Johnny Helms, Mike Sherrill and Stan Goodson.  After the golfing, the contestants were treated to a steak dinner. Steaks were donated by Bi-Lo of Stanley. Sun-Drop Choice Beverage Company donated refreshments. There were prizes and trophies in addition to the cash winnings. Vic Sheets of Stanley directed the tournament and was assisted by more than twenty-five community volunteers who helped with all the work involved in conducting a golf tournament. The goal to raise $5,000 toward Harper Park was exceeded as this fund-raiser event brought in $6,000 to help with construction of Harper Park.
